The Planning Minister, Mr Maclellan, has approved amendment L55 to the Boroondara Planning Scheme, which will provide interim protection to certain areas until Amendment L54 is resolved. The interim order applies to the following areas:

  • Fairview Avenue, Burwood
  • Goodwin St and Somerset Rd, Glen Iris
  • Great Glen Iris Railway Junction Estate and Environs, Ashburton
  • Holyrood Estate and Environs, Camberwell
  • Ross St, Surrey Hills; and
  • Toorak Estate and Environs, Glen Iris

Amendment L54 would enable permanent controls to be applied to these areas and is yet to be formally implemented.

Amendment L55 has been approved in such a manner that the interim control requires only a planning permit for the demolition of a building within each of the six identified heritage areas. It excludes the need for a planning permit for the demolition of a building for which a demolition permit has been issued under the 1994 Building Regulations on, or before, the amendment is gazetted. The amendment remains in force until 6 August 1999.
