26 May, 1998

The Member for Box Hill, Mr Robert Clark, today presented the Mayor of the City of Boroondara, Cr Loreto Davey, with cheques totalling $42,500 for the Boroondara Library Service.

The cheques were part of more than $1 million of funding being provided by the State Government this year for local library projects and to expand libraries’ collections.

The grants will be used by the Boroondara Library Service to update and improve its cataloguing system and to expand its collections, including its popular Chinese language collection.

"These grants will help Boroondara libraries continue to improve the service which they provide to residents," Mr Clark said

Mr Clark said that the funding was part of a new triennial funding arrangement introduced by the State Government which would operate until 1999/2000.

"This method of funding library services will provide greater certainty for libraries when they are making their plans over the next three years," Mr Clark said.
