Additional funding for school maintenance projects

News Release - 26 March 1999

Surrey Hills Primary School is to receive a maintenance grant of over $55,000, and Box Hill High School a grant of almost $10,000, as part of a further $9.3 million for maintenance being provided by the State Government.

$9.3 million worth of grants have been allocated to 123 schools across the State as part of a $70 million upgrade project announced late last year.

The announcement has been welcomed by the Member for Box Hill, Mr. Robert Clark.

"The project is part of the government’s pledge to spend $1 billion on maintenance and capital works during its current term of office.

"As a result, the $670 million maintenance backlog inherited from the Labor Government in 1992 will be reduced to less than $190 million by the end of 1998/99," Mr. Clark said.

The allocation of funds is based on a statewide audit of schools as part of the government’s Physical Resource Management System (PRMS).

PRMS is a detailed auditing system for identifying and prioritising school maintenance needs.
