There are several sources of local history on-line.

The most comprehensive is the former National Centre for Australian Studies Gazetteer, which unfortunately has been discontinued, but the pages of which have been archived.  There are detailed articles on :

The Whitehorse Manningham Heritage Network Project provides a searchable database of the history collections held by local historical societies, including photographs.   Unfortunately at this stage only the catalogue entries, not the collection items themselves, can be viewed on-line.

The City of Whitehorse site has a brief history page, including the White Horse and Box Hill Town Hall.

The Sydney Morning Herald Travel Guide also has a page on Box Hill.

The State Library of Victoria has an on-line collection of over 80,000 historical photographs and other images of Victoria, which can be searched by keywords, including location names.  It has has an Australiana Index which can be searched by keywords including person or organisation.
