New disabilities centre in Mitcham
The Minister for Youth and Community Services, Dr Denis Napthine, has opened a new centre in Melbournes eastern suburbs catering for people with disabilities. The Nadrasca agency in Mitcham will run its Cerebral Palsy Education Centre and the Nadrasca Adult Training and Support Service from the Witt Street site. The Victorian Government provides more than $2.34 million per year to Nadrasca to run its programs for disabled people. Nadrasca was established 30 years ago to provide educational facilities for children with a disability and now provides a variety of services to meet those needs. The organisation now manages six programs, four of which are funded by the Victorian Government through the Department of Human Services. Programs include supported employment and day services for more than 120 people, residential services for 37 people, outreach services for 17 people and early intervention programs for 29 children and their families. Nadrasca at present manages two large Adult Training and Support Services, which provide day services and activities for a total of 117 full-time people, including 26 who have moved from secondary schools to the services under the Futures For Young Adults program.
