A $24 million Victorian Archives Centre is being constructed to house Victoria’s historic public records. The Centre will be located in Macaulay Rd, North Melbourne and advanced climate-control, fire-prevention and security systems to ensure all documents and artifacts are fully preserved in their current condition.

The Centre will also house a portion of the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria’s collection whilst its St Kilda Rd complex undergoes renovation and will ultimately incorporate a permanent store for the Gallery.  It is expected to be completed by the second half of 1999.
