Successful Interventions Literacy Initiative The Successful Interventions literacy program operates in a number of Victorian schools to provide support and assistance to students who are underachieving in literacy and numeracy. The Project is a partnership between the Department of Education, the Board of Studies, the Catholic Education Commission Victoria, the Independent Association of Registered Teachers Victoria, the Victorian Association for the Teaching of English, the Association of Independent Schools Victoria, the Victorian Association for TESOL and Multicultural Education, the Mathematical Association of Victoria and the Victorian Association of State Secondary Principals. The Project was developed using Commonwealth funding from the Quality Outcomes Program, from which $1,196,000 was allocation to the Victorian initiative. The Project has three components: an environmental scan identifying existing literacy and numeracy strategies and programs; a research project identifying the effectiveness of particular strategies under certain conditions; and the development of intervention materials for specific purposes and conditions and advice to schools on how they may be used. A final report on the Project's implementation is to be prepared by March 2000. (Office of Minister for Education, September 7, 1998) |
