Funding available for companies to attend IT Trade Show

Victorian multimedia and information technology businesses are being invited to apply for a State Government sponsorship to attend one of the world's largest, most prestigious international IT and multimedia trade fairs - Comdex Fall 98.

The sponsorships are available to Victorian IT&T and multimedia companies with fewer than 500 employees and provide a subsidy of $4000 for eligible exhibitors to establish their own stand, and $2000 for exhibitors without stands. To be eligible, companies must source more than 50 per cent of their product components from Victoria.

Comdex Fall 98 will be held in Las Vegas from 16 to 20 November, and is expected to draw more than 250,000 people and 2000 companies from all over the world.

Last year, the 23 companies sponsored by the Victorian Government reported more than $84 million in additional exports.

The Minister for Information Technology and Multimedia, Mr Stockdale, said that on average, the 70 companies attending Trade Shows in the past 4 years, including Milia and CeBit in Europe as well as E3 and Comdex Fall, have reported $3.5 million each in direct sales from the fairs, boosting Victorian exports by nearly $250 million in the 1997-98 financial year.
