Victoria will lead the way with the creation of Australia's first virtual TAFE campus, attracting students from across Australia and overseas. The $22.5 million TAFE Online 2001 strategy will enable the state's TAFE institutes were set to embrace the latest in multimedia technology with courses going online on the Internet.

Students will be able to choose and enrol in courses, pay their fees, access course work, lecture notes, take part in discussion groups and submit assignments over the internet.

The launch of TAFE Online 2001 follows 20 months of research and development involving software experts, leading educators and industry groups.

Online course materials have been developed in the areas of Business Studies, Electrical and Electronics and Hospitality, with other courses to be developed. Other features include professional development for TAFE staff, the installation of the latest in multimedia technology and the development of new online courses and resource materials.
