More than 100,000 transactions have been carried out on the
Victorian Government's maxi online network in less than one year of
operation, the Minister for Information Technology and Multimedia, Alan Stockdale has
announced.
"The maxi network, which was launched in
December last year, is now processing more than 17,000 transactions and 3000 information
inquiries a month - more than double the Government's 8,000 monthly target," Mr
Stockdale said.
Of the 100,000 transactions, 40 per cent were being conducted
outside of 9am to 5pm working hours, underlying the fact that more and more Victorians
view maxi as a convenient way to deal with government.
maxi is owned by maxi multimedia (a
joint venture between NEC Australia and Aspect Computing), which won the contract to
provide the Victorian Government with its online transactions capability.
Presently maxi can be accessed through public
information kiosks, the maxi Internet site (www.maxi.com.au),
through a number of government Internet sites (eg VicRoads), and via telephone (13 27
23). maxi services also include User Authentication and
banking/financial transaction capabilities.
Additional government services will continue to be added to the maxi
system during the next few years.
