MAS attends record number of emergencies

 

The Metropolitan Ambulance Service attended more than 47,500 emergency cases — an average of more than 500 per day — in the December quarter of 1998.

Of those, 33, 570 were time-critical (Code 1), based on the information provided to the Ambulance Communications Centre. More than 90% of these cases were attended to in 14 minutes or less.

December was the busiest month on record, with 16,552 cases attended.

Compared with the December 1997 quarter:

  • Emergency ambulance case-load increased by 9.4%.
  • 8.4% more emergency patients were transported.
  • 9.2% more non-emergency stretcher patients were transported.
  • Air Ambulance transports increased by 15.3%
