Additional $5 million for Victorian Youth Development Program
The Premier, Mr Kennett has announced a $5-million increase in funding for the Victorian Youth Development Program (VYDP). The $5 million will enable all Government secondary schools to participate in the program from 2000. The program, which was introduced as a two-year pilot at the start of the 1997 school year, provides an opportunity for students to develop leadership abilities, confidence, self-esteem and teamwork skills. Currently 3,100 students from 106 secondary schools participate in the program, reflecting considerable community support. This increase brings to more than $100 million the amount of new spending announced so far committed to youth oriented policies in Mays State budget.
