Microsoft DNA laboratory in Victoria
The Minister for Information Technology and Multimedia, Alan Stockdale, has opened the Microsoft Windows DNA (Distributed interNet Applications) Development Laboratory, the first such to be opened outside the US or Japan. The laboratory, to be run by Melbourne company Expert Software Services, will operate as a think tank for companies wanting to develop and test new solutions using Microsoft platforms. Computer hardware is being provided by Dell Computers. "The Microsoft laboratory will allow companies to test and develop new Internet-based business applications using the absolute latest technology," Mr Stockdale. "Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has been a prominent supporter of the Victorian Governments commitment to technology," he said. "Most recently, Mr Gates endorsed the Victorian Governments approach to online service delivery in his new book Business @ the Speed of Thought. He highlighted the Victorian Governments use of the maxi transaction network and its focus on life events such as changing address or coming of legal age.
