New framework for Government purchasing over the Internet

The Victorian Government has committed to a new national framework for e-commerce purchasing.

The Minister for Finance, Roger Hallam, said the initiative could provide significant trading benefits for Victorian businesses and urged them to consider e-commerce as an alternative to traditional methods.

Mr Hallam said the Framework for National Co-operation on Electronic Commerce in Government Procurement meant more Victorian businesses of all sizes could more easily present themselves for contracts in other states and overseas.

The Victorian Government spends about $1.5 billion in purchasing, with the national government procurement estimated at $15 billion a year.

"All preferred tenderers for government business in Victoria have endorsed the framework and will incorporate it in product offerings," the Minister said.

The framework is available from the Australian Procurement and Construction Council website.
