Victorian multimedia trade mission to Ireland
The State Government will lead an overseas trade mission to strengthen Victoria's technology partnership with Ireland. Up to 20 local firms will visit Ireland from June 28 to July 1 as part of the strategic partnership established in February between the Victorian and Irish government agencies, Multimedia Victoria and Enterprise Ireland. The Minister for Information Technology and Multimedia, Alan Stockdale, said the mission would help Victorian companies to identify partnership and technology transfer opportunities in Ireland and provide possible entry points into the European market. The State Governments multimedia development agency Multimedia Victoria will lead the trade mission and has arranged meetings in cities including Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Kilkenny and Killorglin. Mr Stockdale said the trip was an important chapter in the partnership agreement signed between Multimedia Victoria and Enterprise Ireland and witnessed by Irish Deputy Prime Minister Mary Harney and Victorian Deputy Premier Pat McNamara. He said the partnership between Victoria and Ireland had already led to several commercial deals and a return mission from Ireland was likely to visit Victoria later this year. The subsidies provided to Victorian companies are part of Multimedia Victorias International Trade Fairs and Missions Program. "About $250 million in export revenue was generated by Victorian companies involved in the program during 1997-98," he said.
