Business Events calendar launched

The Premier, Mr Kennett, has launched a year-round Victorian Business Events Strategy which will develop a calendar of industry events.

Mr Kennett said that five event programs involving the marine, furnishing, wine, manufacturing and automobile sectors would form the basis of the Strategy.

A similar strategy has already proved successful in the fashion and multimedia industries with the Melbourne Fashion Festival and the Interact Multimedia Festival.

The Business Events Strategy will include:

  • Melbourne Marine Week, July 1–6.
  • Furnishing Festival Melbourne, July 17–20.
  • Victorian Wine Week, August 17–22.
  • Melbourne Manufacturing Expo, September 27–October 1.
  • Australian Automotive Week, March 3–13, 2000.

"Each industry has been selected for its importance in the Victorian economy and their success as exporters," Mr Kennett said.

Victoria accounts for 34% of national manufacturing output and produces 65% of the nation’s $10-billion automotive industry.

Victoria produces 28% of Australia’s wines at 320 wineries and about 30% of the country’s furniture manufacturing jobs are here.
