Improved State Government Internet site launched
The Premier, Mr Kennett, has launched an improved version of the Governments Internet site, www.vic.gov.au, offering better access to information on Government services. The site now features a powerful search engine that enables users to connect with most other Government Internet sites, and improved displays that make it easier for users to find what they are looking for. The graphic features built into the site have been tested with groups of users. The site has also been designed so that it can easily be changed in line with the needs of users. Intelligent programming built into the site makes it possible for popular requests for information to become hot topics, which will then appear as priority headings within the site. New research estimates 17% of Victorians have access to the Internet at home; up from just 2% three years ago. Around a quarter of the population is expected to be online within a year.
