Hoddle Street and Victoria Parade upgrades

Construction will begin later this year on three new road projects on Hoddle Street and Victoria Parade at a cost of $1 million.

The Hoddle Street works involve two separate jobs for southbound traffic. Initially there will be a fourth lane built between the Eastern Freeway and Vere Street, south of Johnston Street.

The second stage of this project will see the provision of an additional right-turn lane from Hoddle Street into Victoria Parade to manage the increased demand resulting from the improved traffic flow.

An additional lane will also be created northbound on Hoddle Street by indenting several car park spaces and re-marking the pavement lines between Victoria Parade and Johnston Street.

The Minister for Roads and Ports, Mr Geoff Craige, also outlined the State Government’s plans for Victoria Parade to reduce traffic congestion, which include freeing up more room in the left turn lane by indenting 11 bays between Hoddle Street and Cromwell Street.

Mr Craige said that all three projects would help reduce travel times in Melbourne’s inner city fringe. These improvements to Hoddle Street and Victoria Parade will especially improve travel times for buses along these routes.

The works are to commence immediately.
