Nurses injury prevention program expanded
The Victorian Government will contribute an extra $1.2 million to expand a project to help prevent and reduce back injuries among nurses working in our public hospitals, the Health and Aged Care Minister, Rob Knowles has announced. The extra funding is to expand the 51 projects that were set up with $2 million in Victorian Government funding when the Victorian Nurse Back Injury Prevention Project was launched in February, and to widen the program to other hospitals and programs. Mr Knowles said more than 1000 back-injury claims mainly manual handling injuries were lodged by nurses each year, with many more nurses understood to suffer some incidence of back pain.
