Young offenders pilot program gets results
The Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Mr Robert Doyle, has launched a six-month progress report of a special project called the Victorian Young Offender Pilot Program, saying that it demonstrated that young lives could be reoriented positively and productively. In six months, the project has worked with 54 young people with complex needs who are in the Juvenile Justice system, or whose life is taking them that way. Of these, 30 have returned to Technical and Further Education, nine have taken up employment, and 12 are undergoing training to be work-ready. The Federally-funded initiative has resulted from a strong collaborative approach between Victoria and the Commonwealth.
