Employment continues high in Victoria

ABS Labor Force figures for July show that Victoria has recorded another record employment level and that the participation rate has also risen.

The figures show that Victoria’s unemployment rate in trend terms fell to 7.6%.

Over the last year unemployment has gradually subsided from 8.2% to 7.6%.

Employment has risen by 44,700 over the past year and now stands at an all-time high of nearly 2.21 million people.

Victoria had the highest rise in the participation rate of any Australian state last month, up to 63.4%, while nationally it fell.

The Victorian labor market remains strong with over 271,000 new jobs having been created since 1992.
