Service industries to be promoted
The Minister for Industry, Mark Birrell, has launched a Services for Success policy which details the growing importance of Victorias services sector and in particular knowledge-rich services to the economy and outlines a number of new programs to promote business in the services field in a global marketplace. Services now form the largest component of the Australian economy, accounting for almost 70% of Victoria's gross state product. "We will implement new, practical programs to encourage e.business and the use of IT for supply chain management and product distribution logistics," Mr Birrell said. Priority areas include education, smart retailing, tourism, design, engineering and construction, information technology and telecommunications, transport and distribution, financial and business services, health, and film and television.
