Unemployment levels in country Victoria have fallen by 1.3% over the last year according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics figures.

Industry Minister, Mark Birrell, said that the figures also showed a rise in employment levels in country Victoria, with 554,200 people now in work.

"Since the Kennett Government took office in 1992 nearly 50,000 new jobs have been created in country Victoria and the unemployment rate has fallen by nearly a third. It is down to 7.4%, compared with 12.1 % in 1992.

"More people are now employed in Victoria than at any time in the State’s history," Mr Birrell said.
