Trauma centre opened at the Alfred
The Premier, Mr Kennett, has opened the new $9.1 million emergency department and trauma centre at the Alfred Hospital in Prahran. The new development provides 42 discrete treatment areas, of which 31 house vital heart monitors and eight are equipped with full life-support services. The centre also has a new CT brain scanner and two new x-ray machines. The State Government has committed $7.7 million to the new emergency and trauma centre. The Alfred, along with the Royal Melbourne and Royal Childrens hospitals, form the Victorian State Trauma System developed by the State Government.
