Parents say government schools are doing a good job
A statewide survey of Victorias government schools has found that 87.9% of parents with children at government primary schools and 82.3% of secondary school parents believe schools are doing a good job. Around 50,000 parents took part in the survey, part of a yearly review process undertaken by all government schools. Education Minister Phil Gude said the results show schools are delivering a high quality education to children. The survey examined areas such as quality of teaching, academic rigor, general environment, student reporting and responsiveness. Mr Gude said record education funding of over $4.3 billion, a targeted $102 million a year literacy program for young students, the employment of around 1000 new literacy specialists, a $1 billion maintenance and building program and an emphasis on student assessment had contributed to the glowing report.
