New police and courts complex opened in Sunshine
The Attorney General, Jan Wade, and the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Bill McGrath, have officially opened the new $23 million Sunshine Law Courts and Police Complex. Apart from Law Courts and a 24-hour police station, the complex includes a Sheriffs office and Community Corrections Services. Mrs Wade said in place of the former single, outdated court in Sunshine, is a modern complex comprising eight court rooms, more than a dozen interview rooms, remote witness facilities, baby change rooms, and office areas for external agencies such as the Salvation Army, Court Network and Victoria Legal Aid. "The Court will provide modern accommodation to up to eight Magistrates and 17 staff, and 10 Sheriff officers," Mrs Wade said. The police station comprises more than 150 staff and, apart from the uniform branch, includes the Community Policing Squad, CIB, prosecutions office, specialist units and custodial facilities.
