New affordable housing for low-income singles in the inner city
The second stage of a $4 million inner-city housing project to provide accommodation for single men and women on low incomes has been officially opened by the Minister for Housing, Ann Henderson. Guilford Lane comprises 16 self-contained units and was built at a cost of $1.7 million. Stage one of the project, Ebsworth House in Little Collins Street, built at a cost of $2.5 million, was opened in 1997. It provides accommodation in 24 one-bedroom apartments. "The Post Code 3000 Affordable Housing Project involving the State Government, Melbourne City Council and Ecumenical Housing Incorporated again demonstrates what can be achieved when Governments and the community sector join forces," Mrs Henderson said. The Post Code 3000 project makes a significant addition to the pool of accommodation options available to older people in the inner-city area.
